Cande Iveson's Qualifications
Cande Iveson has worked in the public policy arena for the last 10 years. This work includes issue research, policy development, government relations and building grassroots advocacy. She is the founder of Policy Works, LLC, a company committed to working with nonprofit organizations to build effective, appropriate public policies that reflect community values and enhance the common good by improving outcomes for people.
Before opening Policy Works, Ms. Iveson was the Director of Strategic Initiatives for Citizens for Missouri's Children where she focused on improving public policy for children. She worked on various children's issues including child health, child welfare and early care and education. For five years she wrote the annual Kids Count Missouri report.
Ms. Iveson worked in the private sector before turning to public policy. She managed voice communications networks for the Trane Company in St. Louis and for Citibank in New York City.
She grew up in Columbia, Missouri, graduating from Rock Bridge High School in 1976. Ms. Iveson holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Webster College (now Webster University) and a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis.
Cande has been married to her husband Todd for 25 years. They have two children, Christopher, 18 and Jessica, 15. Christopher is a junior at Rock Bridge and Jessica is a freshman at West Junior High.
She is involved in various volunteer activities including Reading to Rover and work with the Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbia. Cande is a member of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and is a past board member of First Chance For Children, International Families (St. Louis).
